A lifestyle is a way of living of individuals which answers the question of who we are, what we do, what are our habits and how we plan our daily schedule.
The Lifestyle diseases are occurring because of the type of activities we do, environmental factors that affect the living conditions, work environments, the food intake, exercise activities and stress. The types of lifestyle diseases are obesity, underweight, diabetes, hypertension, depression, cardiovascular, cancer.
Obesity, one of the most prevalent lifestyle disease in today’s youth occurs because of the long term sedentary lifestyle. The speaker talked about a new term called as ‘Obesogenic’ which is an environment that encourages people to eat unhealthy and not do enough exercise. The types of obesogenic foods are high-energy density foods, increased consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, large portion sizes, large packages, increased variety, increased visibility of foods, etc.
The speaker suggested that in order to lead a healthy lifestyle, individuals need to keep track of their weight, measure obesity, get blood test done and regularly consult professionals and nutritionist. The session turned out to be a very informative session which encouraged the students to take up the healthy lifestyle from today itself.
