Demystify AI and its Impact on the job market.

By Siddhartha Chattaraj

Mr. Rahul Jain, a seasoned Data Engineer Manager at Snowflake with over thirteen years of experience, recently engaged with students in a discussion on “Demystifying AI and its Impact on Job Markets.” Introduced by Pratima Ratwani of the Junior Guest Lecture Committee, Jain delved into the complexities of artificial intelligence (AI) and its evolving role in job markets.

The session commenced with his strategic approach, initiating the dialogue with introductory questions to gauge the audience’s familiarity with AI technology. The discussion unfolded organically, progressing from Data Engineering to Data Analytics and Visualization. He adeptly covered artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI, providing real-world examples that resonated with the students.

Noteworthy was his elucidation on the distinctions between deep learning and machine learning neural networks, backed by problem statements and practical applications. He explored feature extraction, classification variances, and shed light on Large Language Models (LLM) and their role in natural language processing, citing examples from industry giants like Google, Lambda, GPT-3, Open AI, and Meta.

The growth trajectory of AI platforms and the unique features of Chat GPT were discussed, emphasizing its applications in supervised learning, Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), and transformer architecture. He clarified the integration of AI with human interaction, making the complex concepts accessible, even drawing parallels with explaining them to a 5-year-old during the discussion on Prompt Engineering.

The lecture seamlessly transitioned into the practical realm, exploring how foundational models and customized data congregation are employed in industrial scenarios. He also offered insights into transforming job roles with AI, emphasizing its relevance and application in various fields. The session culminated in a dynamic Q&A, where students gained further clarity on AI’s implications.

Pujali Bhaumik, tasked with summarizing the session, encapsulated the comprehensive discussion. The Junior Guest Lecture Committee, led by Prachi Mishra, orchestrated the event, ensuring a well-organized and insightful exploration of AI’s multifaceted impact on job markets. The session left participants with a deeper understanding of AI technologies and their transformative potential in shaping future job ecosystems.
