A Day well spent at the data center
About a month ago PGPITBM 2017-18 students went for datacenter visit in Springer Nature organization, Springer Nature is a scientific publishing company created by the May 2015 merger of Springer Science + Business Media and Holtzbrinck Publishing Group’s Nature Publishing Group, Palgrave Macmillan, and Education ,where we got chance to explore world leading research, educational and professional publisher Data center. Our interactions with the IT Infrastructure Senior Manager Vikas Rawat and Corporate Communication manager Nidhi Gulati were really key. The technology head of Springer Nature made us aware of the criticality of IT Infrastructure even in a business domain like publishing. Mr. Vikas Rawat really went out of his way to provide information on framing and knowledge transfer on data center and other critical industry related situations in order to enlighten us with solutions in real time scenario, Manager of crest was key in making the story what it is.
Inside the Data Center:
While every data center is different, there are three things that most people find common in their experience; how clean it is, the noise level and the temperature, Mr. Vikas gave us a run through of the processes they follow in maintaining and securing the datacenter, where we observed preventive, detective, deterrent and recovery controls are in place. The Authority showed us different network related devices stored in datacenter like-edge router, switches, servers and the HVAC System they are using which is a critical part of any datacenter. Mr. Vikas also told about importance on MPLS Technology and how they use it in internal communication within their organization, we also got chance to learn about BCP DR and crisis response management planning and Drills.
This was a great learning experience for a student of Information security, Visiting such business critical facility and looking at the real-time scenario of how Technology and infrastructure are the helping hand in organizational growth and success.
