Cyber Security and emerging trends in AI with Dr. Brij B Gupta.
In a recent event organized and managed by the Academic Committee of SCIT, students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture by Dr. Brij Bhooshan Gupta, a distinguished cybersecurity and artificial intelligence expert. Dr. Gupta, the Director of the International Centre for AI and Cyber Security Research and Innovations and a Full-time Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, at Asia University, Taiwan, delivered a compelling talk on “Cybersecurity and Emerging Trends in AI.”
Dr. Gupta began by introducing Asia University, highlighting its impressive global ranking and the recognition of its researchers among the top 2% worldwide. In addition, he highlighted the university’s appealing internship and doctoral program, which positions it as a top pick for cybersecurity professionals.
The lecture emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity, with Dr. Gupta referring to cyberspace as the “5th battlefield” after land, sea, air, and space. He presented the distribution of various cyberattacks and highlighted the surge in attacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, with phishing attacks leading the list, followed by malware and ransomware.
Dr. Gupta also discussed the escalating financial impact of cybercrime, projected to rise from $3 trillion in 2015 to $10.5 trillion by 2025. He explored the urgent need for advanced cybersecurity measures, the challenges of cyber litigation, and effective defense mechanisms against various types of attacks.
A significant part of the lecture focused on how AI is revolutionizing the fight against cyber threats. Dr. Gupta explained how AI-powered tools and algorithms are enhancing threat detection, automating responses, and predicting potential vulnerabilities, thereby playing a crucial role in bolstering cybersecurity defenses.
Dr. Gupta concluded by offering valuable advice on writing high-quality research papers, inspiring students to contribute to the evolving fields of cybersecurity and AI. Dr. Shaji Joseph, Associate Professor at SCIT, in the presence of Professor Dr. Ajey Kumar and Academic Co-Ordinator Meghna Madam, honored the guest with a token of appreciation. This lecture provided deep insights into the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, underscoring the importance of innovation in protecting our digital world.
