Vodacom said that they currently have 3.1 million BlackBerry smartphones on their network, followed by Android with 1.2 million, and AppleiPhone at 600,000.
Vodacom further said that they have 220,000 devices running a mobile Windows operating system.
The following table shows the growth of smartphones platforms on the Vodacom network over the last two months.

Windows | 150,000 | 220,000 | +70,000 |
Vodacom’s latest statistics revealed that Blackberry is still the most popular mobile platform in the country, but Android is showing very strong growth.
According to the latest statistics Vodacom has around 3 million active BlackBerry devices on its network.
This is significantly higher than the 800,000 Android devices, 400,000 Apple devices, and 165,000 Windows devices on Vodacom’s network.
However, Android is showing particularly strong growth. The number of Android devices doubled over the last twelve months, and many people predict even faster growth in future.
BlackBerry’s future growth, in turn, will rely heavily on the success of the newly launched Blackberry 10 platform. The jury is still out on what impact it will have on the smartphone market.
