Every year SIC students celebrate Makara Sankranti, the harvest festival! Makara Sankranti is a harvest festival celebrated all over India with different names. On this occasion people thank the Sun for a good harvest and offer the first grain to God. On Makara Sankranti, the sun enters the sun-sign of Capricorn or Makara Rashi. The word ‘Sankranti’ signifies the movement of the sun from one zodiac sign to another. Thus, the name of the festival literally means the movement of the sun into Capricorn. This year Telugu family of SIC organized Sankranti celebrations in SIC Campus on 9th January, 2018. College was well festooned by students for the occasion and a nice “Rangoli” represented the great culture of India. Students came together in traditional attire and celebrations started by performing “Pooja” in the morning. It was followed by a “Special Lunch” in the afternoon. Cultural programs, games, special dance performance and Bhogi Mantalu (Camp Fire) was arranged in the evening. Entire day students enjoyed the state of exuberance and enthusiasm. Like every year this year also Makara Sankranti was a great recreation for students and long may it continue!
