This January saw a variety of events, including the famous Symbiosis Premier Edition, SPL 8.0. The eight teams of SPL competed hard for two weeks to secure a position in the play-offs as the top four teams get to compete in it. Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiants, Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab were the teams that finished in the top four. The first playoff was played between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants, where Mumbai Indians won comfortably to continue their dominance in this edition of SPL as they booked their berth in the final. While in the Eliminator match, Kings XI Punjab defeated Gujarat Lions to enter into the second play-offs where they continued their winning streak as they overhauled Pune to face Mumbai Indians on the day of the finals.

There was a surprise match in the cards as SCIT girls team took on SIIB girls team, and SCIT girls team bludgeoned SIIB girls team to claim victory. As the final began, Punjab were put into bat and faced tight bowling in the initial overs as Mumbai Indians managed to take wickets at regular intervals and slowed the run rate. With Punjab’s captain Madhur Sodhi and Shravan taking centre stage (Both from SIIB), they managed a decent 56. With 57 to win from 10 overs, Mumbai Indians had a task at hand. They made their presence felt by hitting boundaries in the initial overs, including Chintan’s elegant straight six off Punjab captain’s bowling. Following their dismissals, with new players at the wicket, it was always going to be a tough job to chase down a target. A disciplined bowling saw Punjab coming atop successful in the final of SPL 8.0. Both the teams displayed character on the night of the final as the best one emerged as winners.
