These days companies allow their employees to ‘Bring in your Device’ system, which enhances productivity and reduces hardware as well as infrastuctural costs. BYOD helps companies to multiply the workforce to a great extent, aiding in their expansion world wide. But on the flip side of the coin,
Companies put themselves into a undeniable risk. For Example If the employee is working in a coffee shop that has unprotected internet service, then there are high chances that the confidential data can be leaked. Similarly, an employee can use a lot many websites or apps that do not come under the SLA of the company. Also, the productivity of the employee working at a different location cannot be accessed. To mitigate all these risks IT department of the company has to be given complete authority to review the systems of such employees and access as to in which conditions the company’s data is been worked upon. Crucial softwares such as citrix , VPIN etc should be used so that even if the employee is not working under companies premises, the data can be assesed only softwares which are company related..Strict IT policies is definitely the need of the hour but at the same time reviewal, updation and implementation of those policies are also extremely crucial.
