“First the man takes a drink; then the drink takes a drink; then the drink takes the man.”

Two days back I had gone home for the weekend. When I reached home, I saw rush crowd gathered in front my neighbors house. When I came to know the reason behind that I was shocked. Our neighbor who was in his 30’s died because of liver failure which caused due to excessive alcohol consumption.

I realized then how just a liquid mixed with water can take your life. People think that alcohol is not that much harmful like the other drugs. But they are unaware of the fact that Alcohol is considered as Most Harmful Drug in the world, which is also consumed in large quantity than other drugs. I am not saying that other drugs are not that harmful. I want to say, People think that just a small quantity of alcohol is not going to affect their health. However the quantity is large or small its effect will be the same. There’s no guaranteed safe level of drinking alcohol. Alcohol’s hidden harms usually only emerge after a number of years. Liver problems, reduced fertility, high blood pressure, increased risk of various cancers and heart attack are some of the numerous harmful effects of regularly drinking. And also the main reason behind the many car and bike accident is Alcohol.

Today’s youth is more addicted to the alcohol. The age group of 18 to 30 in which mostly the working persons have addiction of excessive alcohol consumption. These youngsters don’t think about the future consequences, they just want to enjoy the movement.  To prevent the excessive consumption the government should increase the awareness in to the society. Also the underage drinking laws should be strict and maintained properly. But this is not going to happen because most of the government revenue comes from alcohol. So it’s our responsibility to be aware of these harmful drugs and prevent our self to get addicted to it to have healthy life. Once Nancy Astor said, “One reason I don’t drink is that I want to know when I’m having a good time.”
